What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

Backpacking Programs

At Eagle Village, groups have the opportunity to minister in practical ways alongside the staff at Eagle Village and gain a unique perspective on how, through God's help and love, we serve, value and equip youth and families for success. Mission groups can participate in a variety of work projects on our 680-acre campus and help faciliate activities and programs for the youth at Eagle Village. Participants will stay in camp housing and have most meals in our Camp and Retreat Center dining hall, while having opportunity to share some meals with residents and staff. Additional options can include: team-building and other camp activities for your group, training on the impacts of trauma, river canoe trips on the nearby Muskegon River, etc..

Group Service Options:

Summer Camp – High School-age students and adults can partner with our highly trained summer staff to help provide a great experience to participants in our intervention summer camp program. You’ll be building relationships and providing positive role modeling for at-risk youth, supporting our staff, and engaging one-on-one with students who crave positive relational connections during their time at camp.

Residential Programs – Plan and implement a chapel service and help with daily activities and programs for youth in our residential programs. You can share your special skills or trade as part of a life skills lesson: do crafts, teach a lesson in the kitchen and bake or cook together, teach basic auto maintenance, or plan other programs that will engage youth and create lasting memories for them.

Service Projects – On 680 acres, there are always projects to be done. Clear trails, plant flowers, paint inside or out, help to build new activities or repair existing facilities. If you’re choosing projects that require materials, we do ask that you raise or contribute additional funds for the purchase of materials. We’ll provide tools and equipment, and expert support from our maintenance team duirng your projects. Depending on the project, youth from our residential programs may be able to work alongside your team, providing additional opportunities for relational ministry.

Individuals seeking to support our mission may review our other opportunities posted here or contact us for additional options.

Relation of Opportunity to National Church and/or Long-term Goals

Eagle Village provides residential care for youth who, because of abuse and neglect, cannot stay with their family of origin and require intensive supports. During their time living at Eagle Village, they attend local churches in the community, and develop new, healthier support systems. Short-term mission teams are able to model healthy relationships, and show youth how the church can be a place of hope and healing for them long after they leave Eagle Village. In addition, short-term mission teams provide encouragement to staff who are often impacted themselves by the challenges of working with this special population. Mission teams offer a boost through prayer and conversation, and as they help accomplish tasks that often get overlooked in light of other pressing matters.
