What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

Peru 2022.jpg

Peru is a country where 44 percent of its people live below the poverty line and over 70 percent of the rural population live in homes with dirt floors. The Fuller Center in Peru has been working to build safe, decent, and affordable housing with those in need in the small migrant community of La Florida. Most of the families are migrant workers or day laborers who don't earn enough for decent homes so they live in structures made of reed panels.

Participants will have the unique opportunity to work side by side with the homeowners and other locals to build these new homes. The volunteer work for the new homes being constructed involves making and pouring lots of concrete, rebar, digging holes, moving construction materials, piling brick and more. In addition to providing safe housing, these trips provide locals with jobs, help support the local economy and create a life-changing experience for all involved.

While our worksite is an active construction zone, it is also an active neighborhood with many families kids who you will have the opportunity to interact with and get to know. You will also have one day of the week in which you can rest or go sight seeing. Local sight-seeing opportunities include horseback riding, white water rafting, ancient sites (Inca ruins), local open-air markets, cultural folk music, dance programs and the Nazca Lines.

If you have a heart for combining service, traveling and experiencing new cultures than this trip is for you! You get to experience the joy of giving a family a light of hope by providing them with a home and helping them take a step towards a better life!

Mission Trip Offered By The Fuller Center for Housing

The Fuller Center for Housing is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing worldwide. By forming partnerships with local organizations, The Fuller Center provides the structure, guidance and support that communities need to build and repair homes for the impoverished among them.

We operate through local Covenant Partner organizations, which are volunteer led and driven. Visiting Global Builders teams will have the opportunity to assist one of our local Fuller Centers — called Covenant Partners — build or renovate a home for a family in need in their community.
