What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

RfRECmYzTBjaa2iDOxTplvC9I4dKbYaV80u2s8lo.jpeg

We Need Your Help as we Serve the Vulnerable

The Dominican Republic is home to over 10 million wonderful people including many who live in the cities of Santo Domingo and La Romana and the surrounding bateyes (settlements around a sugar mill). These bateyes once formed the backbone of the economy and many are settled by Haitian immigrants. There is a long history of enmity and bigotry between the native Dominicans and the immigrant Haitians/descendants of the Haitians. Bateyes tend to be the poorest of the poor areas in the Dominican Republic. We invite you to come alongside local ministries to serve in the the cities and/or the bateyes. We aim to aid in community development and provide food and water, build-up of community infrastructure, sports ministry, children and youth ministries and child sponsorship as we share the love of Jesus.

Service Opportunities:

Bold Hope is not only partnered for short-term missions, but is also partnered in deep, long-lasting HOPE initiatives. This means your group may make lasting connections through child sponsorships and the support of ongoing ministry efforts year-round. Before your trip, we will work together to learn about your group and prepare you to have a significant impact during your missions experience. On your trip, you will be greeted by our friendly staff as you arrive in the Dominican Republic; they will guide you through the week, attending to you as you serve the people of the DR.

  • Church & community outreach
  • Light construction
  • Prayer walks

Our Team:

Our team of missionaries is passionate about seeing leaders, churches, and entire communities thrive. They work directly with churches and other ministries to empower locals. Our team includes BoldHope-employed local missionaries along with local partners like Pastor Liony and Pastor Mede. Liony was born in the DR, lived in the US for a time, and has returned to serve his home country. He has developed various ministries and connections throughout the DR and specifically in Santo Domingo and several local bateyes. He works with children and youth through a wide range of initiatives to promote growth and development. Pastor Mede has deep knowledge of many bateyes and of the Haitian community in the city of La Romana. We are connected with his church and are working to develop new initiatives in the most vulnerable areas.

Relation of Opportunity to National Church and/or Long-term Goals

We have been blessed with a team of missionaries and with relationships in several Dominican-run local ministries, in La Romana and in nearby bateyes (villages made up of mostly day laborers and their families). We serve both Dominican and Haitian populations that live in the region. We are deeply integrated in the local church and we invite you to join us as we support the local church in its ongoing work.

Training debriefing

Before your mission experience, Bold Hope will prepare you with resources to gather your team, fundraising ideas and suggestions, a complete itinerary, a Bold Hope Mission Consultant, cultural and medical information, help with securing plane tickets, a packing list, a community needs list, information on acquiring a passport, and many other pre-trip items. We also provide pre-trip training materials and slide presentations. We can help you craft specialized training, including information on cultural challenges, evangelizing in love, and logistical specifics that may interest those who choose to serve with you.

At the end of the week, you are invited to debrief the week as a group with our team on the ground. We also provide resources so that you can continue this debriefing when you return home. During debrief, we encourage reflection on how God moved during the week, as well as what God may be calling you into as a result of the week in ministry. This debrief time is low-key, yet powerful. We present opportunities to appreciate others, sponsor children, serve on future trips, and more during this time! Our hope is that this week on mission creates excitement for you or your team to travel home with a mission to have an impact there as well.
