When you think of Peru, what comes to mind? Alpacas? Machu Picchu? The Disney Animated classic The Emperor's New Groove? Peru is far more than all of that. The third largest country in South America is home to over 33 million people who live on the coastal plains, in the Amazon, and throughout the Andes mountains. Their culture is vibrant and distinct: a blend of Incan and Spanish traditions is expressed throughout their architecture, fashion, art, and the people themselves. 

Ministry—We aim to share Christ by establishing relationships built on compassion and meeting the community's needs, whether by teaching English to students of all ages, working in community kitchens, or talking about Jesus with anyone we encounter. Additionally, in Arequipa, there are only a handful of missionary families serving a city of 1 million. That is a big job, and burnout can be very real. We will come alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ by caring for them and their children. We may only be in Peru for a few short weeks, but we want to see them thrive in ministry for many years to come.

Adventure—Peru is a large country with varying regions to explore, from the Pacific coastline to the imposing Andes mountain range, and nearly 60% of the country is tropical rainforest. There are some exciting places to explore, from one of the world's deepest canyons (which we’ll visit!) to the snow-capped peaks of the nearby volcanoes. On top of that, you’ll get to meet many interesting people, and the odds of meeting an alpaca are greater than almost anywhere else in the world!

Experience Culture—Peruvian culture is a lively mix of Hispanic and native traditions woven into every aspect of their lives, particularly their art. Music and dance are vital to keeping their traditions alive, and their dress reflects a vibrant and celebratory outlook on life. So it may not surprise you to learn that the people of Peru loooove to par-tay. They also deeply value family and hospitality; you will be welcomed with open arms!
