What the Mission Trip Will Be Like
Bulembu is a former mining town in the mountains of northwestern Eswatini. When the mines closed, the town emptied out. What stands there now is a community rebuilding itself around the care of orphaned and vulnerable children, and Mission Discovery has served alongside it since 2009.
Your team flies into Johannesburg and drives about five hours to reach Bulembu, crossing the border into Eswatini. From there, you settle into a rhythm: work projects, time with the children, an evening worship time before dinner, and a campfire after. Most days start at the work sites. Some afternoons stay there, and some hand the hours over to the kids. That mix is set by what the projects need that week. The town goes dark early. Around here we call nine o'clock Bulembu midnight.
The work changes year to year based on what Bulembu needs most. Painting. Construction. Building playgrounds. Tutoring in the schools. One morning the team hosts the Auntie Tea, a celebration honoring the aunties and uncles who raise these children as their own. Everything is confirmed on a conference call before you travel, so you will know your projects before you pack.
The trip closes with two days away from Bulembu. First a final church service to say goodbye to the children you have spent the week with, then a drive to a lodge just outside Kruger National Park. The next morning brings a full day of game drives, and the day after that, the road back to the airport.
You will come home with sawdust under your fingernails and the sound of those kids singing stuck in your head. Most people who go once start planning the next one before they land.

Mission Trip Offered By Mission Discovery
Mission Discovery trips aim to help developing communities. Teams of volunteers build homes for families in need, love on orphans, feed the hungry, clothe and educate school children, provide medical care and empower churches to bring hope to their communities.
