What the Mission Trip Will Be Like
Serve the community, typically low income, with the love of Christ in Brazil. Walk alongside, care for, and mentor kids, teenagers, and their families through activities and discipleship.
Q & A with ACTION Brazil Field Workers
1. What are some tasks that you want the volunteer to accomplish while serving with you?
Our focus for volunteers would be to encourage workers, learn about other cultures, and show Jesus’ love through existing projects and ministries. We’d love to have volunteers who are flexible and ready to assist in classes given by the projects- such as English Class, teaching sports, or making art projects and maybe even share some of their skills with the community as well. Portuguese is the language spoken and while it can be similar to Spanish, don’t expect to survive off this. We assume you’ll need help communicating.
2.What would a typical day look like for a volunteer?
A typical day is never typical in Brazil but could consist of being at the ministry base to prepare for the volunteer’s role. Many of the ministries offer regular programming and classes through the week or special events, with downtime in the evenings. The culture revolves around relationships and will be likely sharing a meal or snack with others throughout the day. You will also provide help wherever it is needed – cleaning the base, handiwork, doing administrative tasks, and so on.
3. Please list specific skills a volunteer may expect to develop by the time their trip is completed.
• Strengthening of personal prayer life, Bible study, and practical application in everyday life and ministry
• Grow faithfulness in daily work and planting seeds in the communicating
• Living and serving with cross-cultural workers from various countries
• Understanding cultural differences, conflict resolution, and working in groups effectively
• Grow in understanding of the effects of trauma on children and their families
