What the Mission Trip Will Be Like
Service Opportunities
Your team will join local churches and ministries in serving families, encouraging hearts, and sharing the hope of Christ. Through your time in Costa Rica, you’ll show God’s love in practical ways and remind people that He sees them, His promises are true, and His presence is near.
- Here are some of the ways your team may serve:
- Children’s Ministry: Share God’s love with kids and youth through games, songs, stories, and sports in neighborhoods facing poverty and risk.
- Evangelism: Listen to people’s stories, share the hope of Jesus, distribute Bibles, and offer the gift of His love. This ministry takes place in parks, local communities, and prisons.
- Refugee Ministry: Partner with local churches to care for and minister to refugees and others experiencing hardship, bringing practical help and spiritual encouragement.
- Surf Club Family Community Outreach (Optional): Engage children ages 4–10 in a safe, fun environment where they can learn to surf, hear a Bible-based message, and care for God’s creation by helping clean the beach. Your team may serve as lifeguards, surf instructors, or mentors as you help build relationships and support the local church’s outreach.
- House Building (Optional): Assist in constructing safe, sturdy homes for single mothers, providing their children with a secure place to grow while their parents work or pursue new skills.
Lodging
Your team will stay in a mission house, with rooms divided by gender. Bunk beds and bedding are provided for a comfortable stay. Please note there is no air conditioning. If you tend to get hot easily, we recommend bringing a small personal fan for your comfort.
Meals
Your team might help out in the kitchen or you will have a local cook. Your breakfast and dinner will most likely be traditional Costa Rican meals. Your lunches will be sandwiches, fruits and chips.
Transportation
Your team will fly into San Jose, Costa Rica, where we’ll meet you at the airport. We will arrange all of the ground transportation to and from the airport, as well as to and from the ministry sites during the day.
Safety
The safety of our participants is a top priority for us. We have both an internal Risk Management team and external Risk Management consultants. We use a multi-pronged approach to risk management – including monitoring information from reporting agencies and relying on the knowledge of our ministry partners. In addition to our own protocols (e.g., students must be with an adult at all times), our ministry hosts and partners will provide trip specific safety guidelines for the particular trip location. Our Mission Leaders are trained in risk management and have access to both on-field and home-office support.

Mission Trip Offered By Adventures in Missions
You want to follow Jesus’s example in the way He cared for the lost and the hurting. You want to take up Jesus’s commission to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28) and be His witness to the ends of the earth (Acts 1).
Adventures in Missions is an interdenominational missions organization that focuses on discipleship. We emphasize prayer and relationships in our work around the world. We seek to disciple as Jesus did; our vision is that God would use us to raise up a generation of radically committed disciples of Jesus Christ.
Since we were established in 1989, we have taken over 115,000 people into the mission field, some for as short as a week and others for as long as a year or longer. We minister year-round through our ministry bases and strategic ministry partnerships. We believe that by giving people the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones and join what God is doing in other cultures and nations, lives are transformed.
