What the Mission Trip Will Be Like
THE MISSION IN
COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA
In 2013, Next Step was invited by a group of local churches and nonprofits to join in a holistic approach to ministry. We are hosted at a local church located in West Columbia called Grace Chapel Church. West Columbia is a city and commuter town in the suburban eastern sections of Lexington County and is a part of the greater Columbia, SC metropolitan area. There is about a 30 minute difference in location and it is near the downtown district as well as the South Carolina State House and Congaree Vista, known locally as “The Vista.”
Here in South Carolina we partner with local churches, businesses, and nonprofits and look to them in order to know how to best serve this community. Our current community partners are The Scooter Scott Project, Mission Lexington, Turner AME Church, Grace Chapel Church, and Emmanuwheels.
Next Step volunteers have simply become an extension and resource to these local partners through the efforts of work projects and relational ministry opportunities. These community leaders are committed to serving their neighbors in dignifying and uplifting ways, and desire to equip and empower individuals and families through giving a hand up rather than a hand out. In meeting the more immediate physical needs, our hope is that those we are serving alongside would come to know and experience the life changing love of Christ.

This trip connects students to the ongoing work of the local Church in the greater Columbia area, allowing them to serve as an extension of ministries that are already deeply invested in their community. Since 2013, Next Step has partnered with local churches and nonprofits who are committed to holistic, dignifying ministry that empowers individuals and families. By serving alongside trusted partners like Grace Chapel Church and other community organizations, teams support long-term efforts rooted in relationship, sustainability, and the shared mission of the national Church—to meet tangible needs while pointing people to the life-changing love of Christ.

The cost of a Next Step trip covers almost everything your group will need for a safe, impactful, and meaningful mission experience, including:
Meals & meal prep all food during your stay.
Lodging accommodations for your group.
Programming worship, teaching, and video content.
Trip staffing experienced leaders and support staff.
Project materials tools, supplies, and resources for service projects.
Partnerships & planned projects all coordination with local churches and organizations.
What Your Group is responsible for:
Transportation to site, as well as to and from the host facility and from the facility to worksites.
Optional expenses on free day activities, such as tours, rafting, or other local adventures.
With the majority of expenses included in the trip cost, your students can focus on serving, growing, and building lasting relationships without worrying about extra fees.

Since 2007 we have focused on helping thousands of youth take the next step in their faith through Christ centered, responsible, safe, impactful, and fun youth mission trips for middle and high school youth groups (other groups and families welcome!). It’s like summer camp with service projects and missions outreach.
