What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

Camobida Teaching 2027b.jpeg

As a Short-term English Teacher, you will be trained and mentored by experienced educators, shadowing qualified teachers while gaining hands-on experience in the classroom. You’ll build relationships with students and their families, helping to create a welcoming and transformative learning environment that opens doors for gospel witness.
This role is ideal for someone with a teachable spirit, a love for people, and a desire to serve cross-culturally through education.

You will:

  • Assist in teaching English to youth and adults
  • Shadow and learn from qualified teachers
  • Build relationships with students and their families
  • Support the school’s outreach and discipleship vision
  • Help with classroom activities, materials, and student engagement
  • Participate in team life and cross-cultural ministry

Requirements: No formal teaching qualifications are required (training and mentoring is provided)

  • English Speaker (B1 CEFR English proficiency or higher)
  • A heart for cross-cultural ministry and Muslim outreach
  • Willingness to learn Khmer and engage with local culture
  • Bible or theological training is helpful but not required
  • Flexibility, humility, and a team-oriented mindset

The 2 people groups in Cambodia this team is working among are considered frontier people groups, meaning they have little to no access to the gospel and remain largely unreached by Christian missionaries. Historically, they have been underserved, with few efforts focused on their spiritual or social development. These communities often experience low access to healthcare and education, especially in rural areas, contributing to ongoing cycles of poverty and marginalization. During the Khmer Rouge regime, both groups suffered severe persecution, with many targeted for their religious identity. Despite these hardships, these groups are known for their hospitality, friendliness, and generosity. These communities represent a significant opportunity for holistic ministry that combines compassion, cultural sensitivity, and gospel witness.

WEC Cambodia is a diverse and growing branch with ministries in teaching, disability outreach, children’s work, sports, and church planting. You’ll be part of a team committed to seeing the gospel take root in every corner of the country.

Relation of Opportunity to National Church and/or Long-term Goals

We work together as a team and with others to serve people so that they might know the love of God and form communities of disciples who reach out to those around them. We seek to express the love of Christ in word and deed through a variety of activities.
It is a collaborative approach, committed to working in close cooperation with the national church and with other missions. It is above all a dependent approach, committed to full dependence on God and his exclusive power to change lives and build his Church.
