What the Mission Trip Will Be Like
Many young people in North Africa are interested in learning English, and there is an opportunity to teach teenagers and adults (mostly beginners) in a small town in the Sahara desert. Alongside teaching, we encourage you to begin learning the local Arabic dialect, and to visit your students and their families.
Activities (these are suggestions, and can be adapted):
- teach 3-4 lessons per week for beginners in a classroom setting
- lead a weekly conversation group or teach individual lessons for intermediate or advanced-level students
- visit locals, learn about the culture
- join in weekly prayer meetings and Sunday worship, lead some of these meetings
- meet with a local to learn some of their Arabic dialect
- visit local believers in a nearby town to learn more about their situation
Requirements:
- English speaker (advanced level); some training in TEFL (we can give advice on this).
- Resilience and good health: you need to be able to handle a hot, dry, desert climate.
- Prior cross-cultural experience, preferably among Muslims.
Length & Time of Year: 6 weeks – 3 months or more! (preferably not the months of June – August, due to extreme heat)

Relation of Opportunity to National Church and/or Long-term Goals
WEC works together in teams and with others to serve people so that they might know the love of God and form communities of disciples who reach out to those around them. We seek to express the love of Christ in word and deed through a variety of activities.
It is a collaborative approach, committed to working in close cooperation with the national church and with other missions. It is above all a dependent approach, committed to full dependence on God and his exclusive power to change lives and build his Church.
