Choosing Ministry Categories for Mission Trips

Choosing the best ministry categories for your trips

MissionGuide.global, allows you the opportunity to choose up to five ministry activities when adding your trips that best match each opportunity you post.

Most trips will fall into several categories. Please be sure and only choose categories that are the main focus on each trip. These categories will both help searchers find activities that appeal to ways they desire to serve and help your trips be found more readily in those searches. The activities you choose will engage the searcher in search results and after they look more closely at your individual trips they will be able to see all possible ministry activities you include or describe on your trip details.

We currently have 36 activities to choose from and while most options are self-explanatory we have provided a list and brief description guide below to give more clarity. It is also good idea to “think” like an average searcher of mission trips would approach these. Many searchers are first time participants of mission trips and not as familiar with some words or terminology we may use, but looking for clear and specific ways they can serve with you.

Here is a screenshot of what searchers will see on your individual trips with Activities listed.

And on the homepage, advanced searches and directory search. searchers are using activities to narrow down options for serving.

Brief description of some commonly confused options:

Agriculture/Farming- working on a coffee farm, teaching sustainable practices, food & nutrition focused trips, etc. Would also fit if looking for someone with a degree in this area and could choose this and “Technical/Professional Skills” category.

Camps– all types of camp-type ministries including sports camps, youth camps, hosting a day camp for local kids, etc. These tend to be very focused specific trips. This can include trips at established campground settings, but this is not a requirement.

Clean Water/Sanitation– Specific work in providing or purifying water such as building a well, providing water filters and other systems, teaching hygiene, etc. This does not include trips that offer sports type water activities such as a surfing or boating ministry.

College/Campus Ministry– ministry that either takes place at a college campus, (examples: internships, semester missions, discipleship or international students, or other campus ministries) but can also include working with college-age 18-25 people in various places not particularly on a college campus setting.

Teaching/Education– teaching in general, separate from teaching the English language to people of other cultures.

Teaching English– Specific ministries focused on teaching English language only.

Medical/Healthcare– includes dental, vision clinics and all other medical clinics or opportunities for healthcare students and workers to use their training, or work alongside those professionals in a clinic setting. Would also fit if looking for someone with a degree in this area and could choose this and “Technical/Professional Skills” category.

Technical/Professional skills– engineering, videography, IT, automotive, etc. Typically trips that need someone with a degree, certifications, or specific experience/knowledge.

Other choices are mostly self-explanatory, but please reach out if you have a questions about which category fits best for your particular trips.
